A couple of months ago we launched our ‘ankle’ application for iOS and Android and it created a fair bit of buzz. The App has been covered in various blogs, talks and magazines. We are - of course - very happy with that. The App has now been recognised as an efficient tool in any therapist's and physician's toolbox. In an attractive, interactive and self-guiding manner the App guides an athlete or patient that suffered and ankle sprain, through a set of preventive exercises that prevent recurrence. As such, more and more caregivers are advising the App to their patients after rehabilitation.
The App simply does that through embedding of a neuromuscular training program that has been developed by researchers from our research group within the Department of Public and Occupational of the the VU University Medical Center in the Netherlands. The program is supported by the British Journal of Sports Medicine. Scientific studies have shown the preventive effectiveness of neuromuscular exercises in general and of our specific program in particular. These ease exercises – bundled in an eight-week training program – significantly reduce your risk for recurrent ankle sprains after initial injury.
