Junior Researcher
Maarten is a sports physiotherapist working in a private practice in The Hague. He completed his master sports physical therapy (MPTS) at Avans+ Improving Professionals, Breda, in 2006 on the subject of injury prevention in team handball. Maarten is course leader of the sports injury prevention course at the Dutch Institute of Allied Healthcare (NPI) and teacher at several Masters of Specialised Physical Therapy at Avans+. His teaching activities include courses on clinical reasoning and supervising thesis projects. Current projects concern the etiology of sports injuries in physical education teacher students, (the prevention of) basketball and team handball injuries, the handball goalies’ elbow, and the implementation of sports injury prevention on club level.
For his combined efforts in education, research and practice he was awarded the title “NVFS Sports Physical therapist of the year” in november 2017.
