Post-Doctoral Researcher
Kaj Emanuel (1988) is a human movement scientist focusing on orthopaedic research. He obtained his PhD at the department of Orthopedic Surgery at the Amsterdam UMC (location VUmc) in 2018 with a thesis about quantitative functional measures for intervertebral disc degeneration. In 2019, he joined both Maastricht University and Amsterdam UMC as a postdoctoral researcher in the nationwide William Hunter Revisited project, which challenges the notion of William Hunter that damaged cartilage cannot be healed. His role is to develop diagnostic techniques based on mass spectrometry and infrared spectroscopy and bring this to osteoarthritic and cartilage-defect patients. Herewith, he searches for markers that affect cartilage repair. His research can be found in his Researchgate profile.
