We are the Amsterdam Collaboration on Health & Safety in Sports (ACHSS). An initiative that brings together, within the Amsterdam UMC, two Dutch leading academic groups on research and clinical practice of athlete health protection. The ACHSS initiative is one of the 11 IOC Research Centers for Prevention of Injury and Protection of Athlete Health.

Intern
Jelena Haugg (1995) is a physiotherapist and she’s doing her Master in ‘Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy’ at the VU Amsterdam. After working in practice with patients in her home country Germany, she wanted to enlarge and deepen her scientific knowledge in the field of physiotherapy.
In her research she is focused on the implementation and scaling up pathways of injury prevention programs after their initial effectiveness trial.
Riff Ekelschot (1996) is a final-year medical student at the VU University Amsterdam. Currently, she is doing her research internship until May 2020. Her main research is about acute and chronic handball injuries and their risk factors in elite adolescent handball players.
Nanick van der Wal (1994) is a medical master student at VU University Amsterdam. Besides medicine she is interested in sports, lifestyle and health innovation. Her main research topic is the implementation of an Exercise = Medicine tool within the PIE=M project. The E=M tool will facilitate prescription of individually tailored E=M advice based on the combination of individual patient characteristics.
Daniël Zomerdijk (1994) is a physical therapist who has worked in a physical therapy practice and hospital. Now he is a student of the Master Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy sciences who works as an intern junior researcher from February till July 2020 at the faculty of Human Movement Sciences, at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
His main research topic is Prevention of sports and physical activity-related injuries. The study he works on is ‘to evaluate the effectiveness of the ‘VolleyVeilig’ volleyball warming-up programme for youth players over one-season (2019-2020) among youth volleyball players aged 10 to 16 years on volleyball related injury rate, severity, and burden of injuries’.
